Storyboards

As part of the design process we illustrated different situations where Knit would be utilized. This helped us to showcase the the app and the merits of its features. We built upon the personas that we created earlier in the design process and developed storyboards to show how Knit fits into their daily lives. This step placed more of a focus on the different interactions that users can have with Knit, and how Knit addresses some of the major needs/design requirements that we addressed through research.

One of Knit’s major features is that it provides users with a way to more effectively communicate with their friends and family. Knit can synchronize contacts from the user’s different social media accounts, and allow the user to set reminders to call/text/message certain contacts on a specific day or at a certain frequency. This will help to motivate users to reach out, especially when there are other distractions that take away from their social lives (like school, work, extracurricular activities, etc.) Reminders could also be set apart from time, meaning that the user can get a reminder when they get home, when they reach their bus stop, or before their friend goes to bed. These features will allow the user to visualize and better manage their relationships.

After referencing some of the capabilities of the app, we went on to brainstorm and map out Knit’s features in our sitemap.

A Timely Reminder:

Building upon Joanna's situation, we created a scenario to highlight Knit's capacity as an organizational tool. In this case, Joanna creates a reminder to call her mom at a time when she knows she has time to spare. As we had learned through our research, in the midst of a busy day it can be easy to put off keeping in touch with one's loved ones. However, Knit allows users to plan ahead and make the most effective use of their time.

Homesick Lin:

As for Lin, as an international student, he not only needed to plan around his own schedule, but around the schedules of his friends and family back home. Therefore, we wanted to show that the app would be capable of keeping track of when certain contacts are available to talk to, since it is hard for someone to keep track of this on their own. Reminders could then be tailored to a convenient time for each person involved, and would lead to more successful communication.
